Attorney General Laxalt Releases Office of Military Legal Assistance @EASE Program

Business Case in Honor of Veterans Day November 11, 2016 (NV) Today, Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt is pleased to announce the completion of the business case for the Office of Military Legal Assistance @EASE Program. The program was officially launched one year ago in November, 2015, and is the nation’s first attorney general-led, public-private partnership offering our military communities access to pro bono civil legal services. In practice, the program pairs military Service members in need of legal assistance with pro bono private legal counsel for civil matters including consumer fraud, military rights, immigration, landlord/tenant, predatory lending and creditor/debtor issues. The program also provides monthly workshops dedicated to drafting free wills and powers of attorney for Nevada veterans across the state.

The @EASE program strives to bolster military readiness by providing Service members with the knowledge that the program has the capacity to manage legal affairs in their absence—putting our Service members @EASE. Earlier this year, the Department of Defense named the Office a “Best Practice Program,” and recommended that the program be duplicated in states throughout the country. The program has partnered with the Nevada State Bar, County Bars and numerous statewide legal organizations to recruit more than 150 local attorneys willing to represent our Service members and their families free of charge.

“Today, on behalf of all Nevadans, I salute the millions of veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting the life and liberty of all Americans, and hope you will join me in extending our deepest gratitude for their service,” said Attorney General Adam Laxalt. “Nevada is home to an estimated 11,400 active duty military members, 7,620 reserve members and over 228,000 veterans, and the Office of Military Legal Assistance @EASE program, through its pro bono partnerships, is proud to have helped Nevada’s Service members and veterans handle over 900 pro bono matters in its first year. With the completion of this business case, there is now empirical data justifying the need for this program and a roadmap to support efforts to form legal assistance offices in other states. It is my hope that this program will demonstrate a commitment to our military communities for years to come, and that eligible Nevadans will continue to take advantage of these services.

Memorial Day Events

Memorial Day Events

You're invited to attend three different events happening during the month of May at both the Nevada State Veterans Cemeteries in the northern and southern parts of the State. All of these events are designed to remember and honor those who have served our country. 

This year, Memorial Day ceremonies will be held on May 29, 2017. 

In the north, the ceremony will start at 11:00 AM at the Nevada State Veterans Cemetery in Fernley. 

In the south, a similar ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM at the Nevada State Veterans Cemetery (SNVMC) in Boulder City. 

You're also invited to attend a preliminary event, designed to prepare the cemeteries for Memorial Day guests and dignitaries. There will be a Flag In event on Saturday, May 27, 2017 where volunteers will place American Flags on each gravesite. 

The Flag In event on May 27, in northern Nevada will require participants to arrive no later than 8:30 AM and assemble in the main area of the cemetery, near the pavilion. There will be a short ceremony at 9:00 AM where volunteers will be provided instruction on how and where to place the American flags. Volunteers will receive a free, commemorative WWI pin!

In southern Nevada, the Flag In event on May 27 will require volunteers to arrive by 7:00 AM. They should assemble in the southern Courtyard Chapel area. There will be a short ceremony where volunteers will learn the proper placement of the American flags.  Volunteers will receive a free, commemorative WWI pin!

Additionally, in southern Nevada ONLY, there is a May 28th event planned to honor Special Forces. That SNVMC event will begin at 10:00 AM.  Again, this ceremony will only take place at SNVMC.

I wanted to reach out on behalf of my client, BRAVO! Cucina Italiana at the Galleria at Sunset as they are having a Memorial Day special for veterans so I wanted to spread the word as much as possible. On Monday, May 29 veterans that dine in at BRAVO! and present a valid military ID will eat for free. I have a press release containing additional information that I am more than happy top send over, but I was hoping you could pass this information along to your members and fellow veterans that support your organization. I'd love for as many veterans to eat free as possible!

Chapter 711 Purple Heart Patriots --
     Saturday, May 6th -- The Military Order of the Purple Heart Department of Nevada and Chapter 711 will be meeting at the South Point Hotel & Casino, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd, So.
         0800 hrs - Mission Bay meeting room open for socializing, coffee and pastries hosted by Chapter 730 (see below for directions to room)
         0900 hrs - Department of Nevada Convention meeting (Mission Bay room)
                              Convention sounds like quite an event, Lions and Rotarians with their pin-laden vests, etc. And what does "Department" mean?
                              Department of Nevada is MOPH jargon for MOPH State of Nevada.  No pin-laden vests, just MOPH attire, and a meeting of 12 to 30 Department officers, but open to anyone with a Purple Heart.
                              What happens?  Usual boring reports, then nominations and elections of 2017-18 Dept. officers followed by installation of same.
                              Complimentary tickets to the National College Rodeo Finals will be distributed to the Department and Chapter Commanders.
         1100 hrs - Las Vegas Chapter 711 monthly meeting (Mission Bay room) and installation of officers elected and appointed in April.  Rodeo tickets will be distributed to Chap 711 patriots

The following directions to the MISSION BAY are courtesy of Chapter 730 Commander Dan Peterson:
       From the Coronado Cafe, enter the hallway to the Equestrian (Arena) Center Hallway:

     Walk down the hallway towards the Arena, past the horse with rider, stay to the left of the hallway.

• Turn left down the first hallway past the horse and rider, above you will see a sign saying "Bay Meeting Rooms" just before the main doors into the arena.
  • Walk down that hallway, it has pictures on each wall as you walk down the hallway, you will again see a sign above saying "Bay Rooms" to the right at the next hallway.
  • When you turn right, continue down the hallway, on the wall at the end of the hallway you will see another sign saying "Bay Rooms" just above the marque (TV).
  • Take the hallway to the left, the first room on the right down the hallway is the "Mission Bay" room.
